It had been a while since Sylar started to suspect that one of his agents (Bradly) is not as loyal as he seemed to be. Bradly had been sneaking around and Sylar was determined this time to know exactly what Bradly has been up to. Was he working with Bennet? Had Danko sent Bradly to spy on him? Or did Bradly have a power? All these questions were racing in Sylar's mind. But what he saw was nothing like what he expected.
He saw Bradly sneaking off to meet a woman, some office administrator. Sylar didn't know her name at first but then he heard Bradly calling her Melissa. He watched them kiss and hug and rolled his eyes at them. "Is that what you have been up to, Bradly?!" Sylar thought to himself. He really didn't expect that at all. As Sylar was about to leave, he heard something that caught his attention. "Is it permanent?" the girl (Melissa) asked, and Sylar stared at them for a while. That question definitely hit a nerve-or two. She (his Elle) had once asked him the same question as she laid there on top of him. “Of course it is, I love you, Melissa," Bradly replied and added a kiss to make himself clearer. Sylar's thoughts were cut off by Bradly's voice.Sylar's answer wasn't the same as Bradly's, but Sylar always wished it was, even if he never admitted it to anyone, even to himself. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her that day, that moment, before everything went up in smoke. It wasn't long before Bradly and Melissa's secret meeting was over, when her superior called for a general meeting. Melissa looked at Bradly with loving eyes and said “I love you, too," they kissed again and each went on their way.
Sylar had been watching their secret meetings for weeks now; it was like his own personal soap-opera, or at least that was what he claimed, but he was there for another reason, watching the “What If Scenario." He always thought about her, the one he regretted killing the most, as he watched Bradly make promises to his lover - as Sylar once did - telling her that she was the most important thing in his life, that he would do anything for her, even if it meant dying for her. Which reminded Sylar of that day, when he did die for her, sacrificed his life for hers, just to kill her hours later. He listened to Melissa telling Bradly how much she misses him when he's out in the field, how scared she is that something might happen to him. At that, Sylar went back to wondering: would she have said these things to him?! if she was still alive, would she stay up all night scared that something might happen to him (even if he was almost invincible), would she have missed him while he was gone or would she be by his side fighting with him ( after all, she was a company girl). But he frowned at his thoughts, he liked to believe that she would have left him, betrayed him, or even tried to kill him, because that way he could justify killing her to himself, because that way the pain in his heart will hurt less, or so he liked to believe.
After a while, Sylar started to hate them out of pity, he tried to convince himself, but it was definitely out of envy. He wanted what Bradly had, not the girl herself but the idea of what they had together, what they called "Real Love." Sylar kept waiting for the day they would truly fight, the day they showed their true colors, because in his world no one really cared about anyone else, only about one's self, and the way they cared about one another was driving him mad, tearing him apart, reminding him of what he could have had, of what he sacrificed - apparently - for nothing.
At the first chance he got, Sylar ratted them out to Danko, to see how would they react, would he choose her over his career, would she do the same for him? Or was all that love and promises just lies? Bradly was truly going to give up his job, his career, for her but she had already resigned, without giving it much thought, and begged him not to do it, she knew how much he loved his job - even if she hated it.
Sylar was extremely mad about it, she should have left him, betrayed him, chosen her job over him, but she didn't, and Sylar was wrong in so many ways that made the un-physical pain in his heart grow stronger. But he wasn't done with them yet, he was far from done. He couldn't take the thought of being wrong, that they had somehow succeeded in what he failed in (love), that they made him regret what he had done. Every time he saw them, he remembered her, her smile, her bright blue eyes, and her blond hair and of course he always remembered what he did to her.
He became more determined to put an end to them (as he'd done to her), to give them an ultimatum, a life for a life, Bradly's for Melissa's. "Would he really die for her or was it just sweet talk to get in her pants?" Sylar smirked at his thoughts. He followed them one day on their way home, and he showed himself (the real Sylar, not one of his new personas) for the first time since he started watching them.
"Sylar," Bradly snapped when he saw him, and Sylar smirked at that, he always appreciated the attention. "What do you want? We have no powers...we are no good to you," Bradly said with a plea in his voice. Sylar kept smirking; he was enjoying this far too much.
"Actually, you are... you said you loved her, would even die for her. Prove it," Sylar informed him, "Your life for hers." Bradly and Melissa looked at him oddly, they couldn't believe what they had just heard, and there was no possible gain for Sylar with her death.
"What will you do, Bradly? Were you telling the truth or was it just a lie?" With that, Sylar lifted his hands, choking Melissa telekinetically and looked at Bradly. "Tic toc, Bradly, she doesn't have much time. Will you sacrifice your life for hers or will you run for your life and leave her to die?!"
Sylar barely finished his sentence when he saw Bradly take out his gun and shoot himself. Sylar couldn't believe what he had just seen. "How dare he?!!!" Sylar thought, "he killed himself for her?!!" He stayed in shock for a while, he didn't notice her scream and cry for Bradly, he didn't even feel the bullets that hit his body, and luckily for him she wasn't focused enough to aim for his soft spot. As the fifth and last bullet hit him, he was back to reality, watching her cry and sob.
"Why did you do that?! What could you possibly gain?!" she screamed at him. He looked at her with his dark evil eyes.
"Nothing," he said, shrugging. "I'm a monster and that's what monsters do."
